Hardwood
Hardwood flooring that outlives trends.
Nothing matches real wood for warmth, value, and the way it ages. Our Washington, DC showroom holds hundreds of solid and engineered hardwood samples from the best mills. We install them with our own crews and refinish the floors you already own.
Solid or engineered hardwood?
- Solid hardwood is one piece of wood through and through. It can be sanded and refinished for generations, and it belongs on the main level and above.
- Engineered hardwood is a real wood surface over a stable core. It handles humidity swings better and can go over concrete or below grade, which makes it the smart pick for basements, condos, and concrete slabs.
Our staff will tell you plainly which one belongs in your room. That honesty is why designers and contractors keep coming back.
Engineered hardwood flooring
For most rooms in the DC area, engineered hardwood is the best hardwood you can buy, from rowhouse basements to condos built on concrete. The top layer is real wood, so it looks and feels like solid hardwood, while the layered core underneath keeps it stable as humidity swings with the seasons. Many engineered floors can be refinished too, depending on how thick the wood layer is. The difference is easy to see side by side in the showroom.
Species, colors and finishes
Because we work with so many mills, we can show you virtually any species you have in mind, from oak, hickory, maple and walnut to exotic species such as Tigerwood, and bamboo. We also carry greener hardwood options for households that want them. Width, color and finish change a whole room, so bring a photo of your space and we will pull samples that suit it.
Hardwood floor installation
A good hardwood installation starts below the floor: a flat, dry subfloor, the right method for the wood and the room, and a layout planned before the first board goes down. Because we sell and install, one team answers for your floor from the first sample to the last piece of trim.

Solid or engineered hardwood: which should I choose?
Solid hardwood can be sanded and refinished for generations and suits the main level and above. Engineered hardwood has a real wood surface over a stable core, so it handles humidity better and can go over concrete or below grade. For basements, condos and concrete slabs, engineered is usually the right call.
Can hardwood go in a basement or over concrete?
Engineered hardwood can. It is built to be installed over concrete and below grade, where solid hardwood would move with the moisture. We will look at your subfloor and tell you plainly what will last.
Do you install and refinish hardwood floors?
Yes. We install the hardwood we sell, and our sand and finish crews refinish existing floors as well as newly installed unfinished hardwood. Both start with a free estimate, and same day appointments are available.
How much does hardwood flooring cost?
It depends on the species, the plank width, solid versus engineered, and the condition of your subfloor. The fastest way to a real number is a free estimate: we measure, then quote plainly. Financing is available through Lendvious, with loans from $1,000 to $100,000.
Can I see hardwood in my own room before I buy?
Yes. Upload a photo to our room visualizer to preview hardwood in your space, or book a shop-at-home visit and we will bring samples to your door.
